History

The Old Stone Foundation was founded in 1980 by area business executives and members of the Old Stone Church who were concerned with the welfare of the underserved within the Public Square area.  In 1994, the Old Stone Center for Education was founded. The Center was created in partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to address the educational issues associated with the women of Cuyahoga County who were not completing high school due to childcare issues and economic needs. Upon the completion of our strategic planning process in June of 2009, and the importance of our name more easily defining our mission and our desire to honor our founders and the home of our organization, the Board of Trustees approved a name change;  Old Stone Education Center.

The Old Stone Education Center is located in the Old Stone Church on Public Square in downtown Cleveland.  The Old Stone Church provides free rent for our excellent school (5,200 square feet), computer lab, and daycare facilities.  We are responsible for the utility expenses associated with our space, and the security for the building on certain school days.  The Old Stone Church does not support our program financially and we are two separate non-profit entities.

The mission of the Old Stone Education Center in partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District has been to improve the quality of life for moms and moms-to-be in Cuyahoga County who did not complete their high school careers by providing opportunities in education, family structure and job skills.
